The Life of William Dall

Photographic essay of the life of William Dall – compiled by Ian Dall

Autobiographical writings

William Dall wrote “A Short History of the Dalls“, including a summary of his own life, and particularly his early life.

The first version was completed in 1981, before the days of personal computers made it so much easier to record and share information.

Later, he developed this initial version into a more comprehensive document, and included old photos and other archival information from his family history and his own early years.

This formed the basis of a lighter piece written by Peter Dall, his son, on the occasion of William’s 80th birthday in 2006.

His professional life is described more fully in the history of his career that he wrote for AMSA – Australian Marine Sciences Association – in 1991.

See also “Bill Dall retires”, which was taken from the CSIRO Division of Fisheries newsletter in 1990, on his retirement.

Bill wrote poems on various topics from time to time, and some of these are also included in his writings.
